Kenyan court halts extradition of Chinese nationals
A court in Kenya has suspended the extradition of four Chinese nationals, who were detained following the circulation of a video online showing one of them caning a worker.
Interior Minister Fred Matiang’i signed off on the deportation order last week after a court had permitted the police to detain the nationals for an additional 15 days.
No charges were brought against them.
Last week an online video went viral purportedly showing one of the Chinese caning a Kenyan local who worked in the same restaurant for being late.
That prompted the police to launch a raid on the Chez Wou Restaurant in Kileleshwa, a suburb of the capital Nairobi, where they made the arrests.
