Ethiopia 'takes action' after Oromia civilians killed

Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has said "measures have started to be taken against the attackers" who killed civilians in the west of the country.

Officials in Ethiopia say the rebel Oromo Liberation Army is to blame for what they called a "horrendous" attack in Wollega province, in Oromia state.

Resident said dozens had been rounded up and killed, houses burned and livestock stolen.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed expressed his personal condolences, and in a statement published on his Twitter and Facebook accounts, he suggested that the attacks might have been identity-based.

The Amhara branch of the ruling Prosperity Party has also released a statement saying the attack was perpetrated against members of the Amhara ethnic group.
