Yvonne Chaka Chaka denies being deported from Uganda
The popular South African singer, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, has denied reports from the Ugandan police that she was deported was the country, after failing to appear at a New Year’s Eve concert she was due to give.
The Ugandan police force released a video on Twitter explaining that irregularities in the singer’s visa application meant she was sent back “to help maintain the integrity of our immigration rules”.
However, Yvonne posted a video to her Instagram page, appearing in good spirits, explaining she left the country on her own accord.
“Not deported, not arrested, not captured, everything is fine, everything is in order. I know my country is worried, my people are worried, my husband is worried. Everybody is worried. But I am fine”, she told her followers.
Reports have circulated stipulating the reason the authorities did not want her in the country was due to her public support for the Ugandan singer turned pro-democracy activist Bobbi Wine.
Yvonne instead insisted she was not happy with the concert arrangements.
