Nairobi Second Most Expensive City To Build in Africa

Nairobi has been named as the second most expensive city to build in Africa, with Johannesburg, South Africa, topping the list. 

Design and consultancy firm Arcadis has released a list of the most expensive cities to build globally. Overall, Nairobi ranks 86th. 

Construction costs in the Kenyan capital are particularly high, surpassing those of cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur and Mumbai. The high cost of land and access to finance are other factors driving up costs for developers. 

The construction and delivery of more affordable housing is part of the governments Big Four Agenda, making the sector a priority for the current administration.
