Ebola Claims Second Life In Uganda
Since the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Ugandan Ministry of Health earlier this week confirmed that the Ebola outbreak underway in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) since August 2018 had spread to Uganda two fatalities have been recorded.
The first is the five-year-old boy who was the first Ugandan to be officially diagnosed with the disease after returning from a trip to the DRC. The second is his grandmother. Both were treated at Bwera General Hospital in Kasese. A further seven cases of the disease have been confirmed in the country. All those suspected to have contracted Ebola are being treated in isolation facilities.
Meanwhile, reports circulated yesterday that three suspected victims had escaped an isolation centre in Kihihi town council, Kanungu District. They are believed to have travelled from the DRC on Wednesday morning and it is suspected they have crossed back across the border following their escape.
Across the border in DRC the outbreak has recorded more than 2,062 cases to date, with around 1,400 resulting in death. The DRC earlier this week also announced a measles epidemic, which is underway in the country.
