Tanzanian Activist Found Beaten Unconscious

Missing Tanzanian opposition activist Mdude Nyagali has been found beaten and unconscious amid concerns for his whereabouts.

Nyagali was found in a village near his hometown of Mbeya five days after he was reported as being abducted by unidentified individuals.

Opposition party Chadema confirmed Nyagali’s whereabouts, stating ““We confirm reports that Mdude Nyagali has been found. He was discovered unconscious, but breathing … in rural parts of Mbeya.”

The Government has denied involvement in the abduction of Nyagali, who is a known government critic. Tanzania’s Deputy Home Affairs Minister Hamad Yussuf Masauni told parliament, “We’ve sent reinforcements from police headquarters to help with this case as an indication of our seriousness in determining if there was any criminal act.”
