Tanzania Faces 80,000 Teacher Shortfall
According to government officials in Tanzania the country is facing a shortage of 80,000 teachers, comprised of 66,000 for primary schools and 14,000 for secondary schools.
The extent of shortfall was revealed by the Deputy Minister of State in the President’s Office Mr Mwita Waitara, who was responding to a parliamentary question raised regarding the situation by the MP for Mwanga, Jumanne Maghembe.
In response to the question Mr Waitara confirmed the shortage and pointed to the employment of an additional 3,089 primary and 1,460 secondary school teaches in April, stating “We are doing all in our powers to steadily increase the number of teachers to fill the gap.”
