South Africa To Teach Kiswahili
South Africa is set to offer Kiswahili as an elective language in schools having signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Kenya.
The country’s Minister of Education Angie Motshekga last year stated the South African government’s intention to offer Kiswahili as an optional language in schools in order to promote unity and social cohesion across the continent.
Motshekga signed the Memorandum alongside her Kenyan counterpart, George Magoha. Under the agreement Kenya will support South Africa in its efforts to introduce Kiswahili.
