Tanzania Confirms Dengue Fever Outbreak
The Government of Tanzania has confirmed cases of Dengue fever in Dar es Salaam and Tanga region but refuted reports of deaths resulting from the mosquito-borne disease.
According to the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children 307 patients have been confirmed as having the disease as of April 2, with the majority of cases in Dar es Salaam. Similar cases were reported in 2010, 2013, 2014 and 2018.
In combination with government efforts to eliminate the fever-carrying mosquitos, the ministry has advised citizens to take precautionary measures including keeping local environments clean and reporting symptoms to medics.
