Ethiopia Crash Probe Continues

As the probe into the recent crash of a March 10 Ethiopian Airlines flight departing Addis Ababa continues similarities with a previous incident in Indonesia have emerged. The Lion Air flight also crashed shortly after departure, resulting in the death of everyone on board in October last year.

According to reports experts suspect an automated system may have been at fault. The system is intended to prevent stalling by dipping the nose of the plane. However, experts believe the pilots charting the flights may have been unable to override the function in order to save the Boeing 737 craft.

Boeing has stated its intention to update flight software across the fleet, however, for now the investigation continues.

Records from the Indonesian flight revealed that the pilots consulted the plane manual as they lost height, trying to regain control of the flight. Reports also suggest a previous crew operating the same plane had faced a similar situation but being able to regain control of the aircraft.

The black box from the Ethiopian flight was earlier sent to Paris for further investigation. A report is expected within 30 days. In the meantime hundreds of the Boeing aircraft remain grounded.
