Electric vehicles (EVs) are a vital part of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from transportation, but how much they can help depends on how clean the electricity grid is. EVs are essential for meeting global climate goals and are featured prominently in emissions reduction plans that limit warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius or 1.5 degrees Celsius, as outlined in the Paris Agreement.
