Hope In Kenya Govt's Budget Low as High Fuel, Food Prices Bite
Kenyans have expressed low expectations ahead of the reading of the 2022/23 budget even as they decried rising food prices which have taken a toll on the overall cost of living.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yattani is expected to present the U.S.$29 billion 2022/23 budget.
The country has also been hit with petrol shortage despite the government cautioning players in the market against hoarding the commodity.
An immediate impact of the acute shortage of the all-important energy source in the country, has been exhibited in the manner various petrol station have resorted to restricting motorists to a maximum of fuel worth U.S.$17.
The country's overall rate of inflation in January, 2022 was 5.39% down from 5.73% recorded in December 2021 with the prices of commodities such as food and non-alcoholic beverages, increasing by 8.89%.
