President Magufuli Issues Ultimatum To Ministry On Cashews
Tanzanian President Magufuli has instructed the Ministry of Energy and Water to ensure services are provided to the cashew nut processing firm Yalin. He has given the Ministry one month to act.
Yalim is under construction but has reportedly suffered delays as a result of power and water shortages. President Magufuli launched the firm, as well as laying the foundation stone for the expansion of Mtwara Airport, during a visit to the region this week. Upon completion Yalin is expected to have the capacity to process 6,000 tonnes of cashew nuts annually, creating 250 new jobs.
In making the announcement the President also called on the authorities to ensure they create an enabling environment for investors so that jobs can be created and government can earn additional revenues in tax payments.
Magufuli also order the authorities to sell 30,000 tonnes of cashews to Yalim at Sh3,700 per kg.
