Kenya’s Sh2bn Fake Notes Scandal

Details concerning Sh2bn in fake notes found at a Barclays Bank branch continue to emerge.

Police believe they may have stumbled on a syndicate in which people were tricked into purchasing fake gold and money that was stored at the Queensway branch. 

The Directorate for Criminal Investigations is looking into the matter, including how the large safe deposit boxes in which the gold and money was allegedly stored were able to avoid detection to date despite the high levels of security.

The police are holding several suspects in custody, including the alleged owner of the boxes, Erick Adede, and bank staff.
