TZ Hydroelectric Power Project to Generate 2,100MW, Create 5,000 Jobs

The Steigler’s Gorge Hydroelectric Power Station in Tanzania is projected to create around 5,4000 jobs.

The number was confirmed by the Minister of Energy Dr Medard Kalemani who has reported to the Parliamentary Committee on Energy and Minerals that between 3,000 and 5,000 temporary positions will be created during the construction phase, with between 250 and 400 permanent positions created at the facility upon completion.  

The project will add 2,100MW capacity to the national grid and supply electricity to 37 villages in Kibiti and Chalinze. It is being run by Egyptian contractor Elsewedy Electric.
