Rwanda Rubbishes Rumours of Uganda Import Ban
Rwanda has dismissed claims that the government has banned the importation of Ugandan goods into the country after reports emerged in media that the entry of cement and other processed products were being blocked.
Speaking on the matter deputy Ugandan Ambassador to Rwanda Ms Anne Katusiime has stated, βAt the embassy, there is no official communication to the effect that Rwanda has banned Ugandan products from entering its country. Media reports are mere rumours and speculation that have no facts.β
The rumours of a ban may have stemmed from an incident on Friday last week when a cargo of Tororo cement seeking to cross the border was thought to have been refused entry by the Rwandan authorities. According to clearing agents at the border the incident was subsequently resolved and is understood not to have affected any other crossings.
